As Christmas gets closer we have these conversations about what’s happening next week. Inevitably he always starts by saying Obama is happening. Then he rewinds and says Santa is coming.

I finally get what parents have meant when they talk about how their kids ‘get’ Santa Claus now.

Mack has been talking more and more about Christmas, and presents, and Santa, and all of that and suddenly Christmas is fun again.

Merrick and I took a football break and jumped on a sled in the backyard. You can’t really hear him but he was giggling so hard.I made him sit behind me because I was afraid we were going to hit the trees hard. He loved this. We both did.

Things I’m Thankful For

I’m thankful that when Mack ends a prayer (like at mealtime or something) he either says ‘thanks’ or ‘happy birthday’ instead of ‘amen’.
I’m thankful that Mack has amazing rhythm and starts every drum solo (and by drum I mean pots, pans, the floor, a table, with silverware or pencils, wooden spoons or whisks) with the requisite ‘ONE TWO THREE FOUR’ count.
I’m thankful that my partner and I like each other after all this time. Well. Mostly.
I’m thankful that Mack sleeps in his bed more than he sleeps in ours.
I’m thankful that my house is warm.
I’m thankful that I feel like the holidays this year. Even though I haven’t felt that way in a few years.
I’m thankful that Matt helped me delete the more than ten thousand spam comments in my queue.
I’m thankful that I like my job and the people I work with.
I’m thankful that I have so much to be thankful for when the world seems to be struggling so much.
I’m thankful that I can stay mostly positive.
I’m thankful for music.
I’m thankful for my friends.
I’m thankful that I’m smart enough not to take anything for granted and to stop and be thankful sometimes.
I’m thankful that I’m starting to re-enter the human race.
I’m thankful. Yep.

Monkey Mack

Merrick was a monkey for Halloween this year. He got into it a little bit for the first time. He didn’t really get the concept of trick or treating. He wanted to stop and sit on the stoop at each house and eat the candy. That really only worked at a couple of houses. Eventually he was holding up the crowd. But overall he had fun and I think next year will be a big year for trick or treating.

We brought Mack to Minnetonka Orchards with friends and he went hog wild. He ran around in a corn maze, got caught in barn prison, jumped from car to car in a wooden train, went on a hayride, watched goats stomp on a bard roof, and jumped around on a pile of hay. This is my favorite image from the day.

Sometimes Mack comes up with the craziest outfits. He is crazy in love with his boots and this old hat was tucked away until he found it and topped off the whole ensemble. Check it.

Merrick had a killer birthday gathering with about 75 of his closest friends. (riiight) He was pretty overwhelmed the whole time. But we hadn’t had a gathering since we moved into the house, and it was an opportunity to bring our friends and family together and celebrate the person who means the most to us. Our boy. Anyway, here he is with his cousin Mitch, about to blow out the candles on his cake.
